Clove essential oil properties

Clove essential oil is a staple in the family oil set.

Clove is widely used as a spice throughout the world. It has been widely used as an antiseptic and in the prevention of infectious diseases. One of its major constituents, eugenol, has anesthetic properties, which is why dentists use it, in addition to its antiseptic properties.

It has a warm, spicy aroma, check which oils it combines well with and you will enjoy the aroma you like. It can be a perfect ingredient for your cleaners. It can also be used to relieve joint pain, make sure it is in the right dilution.

It is obtained from the flower buds of the clove and distilled by steam entrainment.

Clove bud essential oil generally contains up to 85% eugenol, a phenol that contributes dramatically to the aroma, therapeutic properties and safety precautions of the oil. Clove bud essential oil is also composed of a number of other components, notably sesquiterpene B-caryophyllene and eugenyl acetate ester.

Clove essential oil is very useful for use in blends intended to help relieve pain. It is also a powerful antimicrobial essential oil. Just because it is listed as an antimicrobial oil does not mean that it is capable of killing all forms of microbes, bacteria and viruses. There is research on the antimicrobial effect of this oil that demonstrates against what types of organisms it is most effective.

Clove essential oil can be very irritating to the skin. Tisserand and Young recommend a dermal maximum of only 0.5%.

Clove oil is also known for its benefits in dental applications. It is often recommended for use with dental pain. Although numerous sources suggest applying a drop of pure clove essential oil to a sore tooth, clove essential oil is very potent and is not recommended for use at full strength for any purpose but rather diluted as indicated in the recipe below in this article.

Aromatically, clove bud essential oil has a strong, warm, spicy aroma that blends well with other spicy essential oils such as cinnamon bark. It also blends well with essential oils from the citrus, woody and floral families. It is a strong oil, so when first learning to blend it, try to use it sparingly in blends.

From an emotional standpoint clove bud essential oil is an invigorating and mentally stimulating essential oil.
